Waafi Bank is excited to be a part of the journey of forging a new path of cooperation between Somalia and Malaysia. Yasin M. Ibar, CEO of the Somali Bankers Association, for his instrumental role in co-hosting a gathering in Mogadishu that brought together some of Somalia’s leading figures from the government, academia and the private sectors to meet with Waafi Bank’s Directors, Dr. Mohamed Ashraf Iqbal and Dr. Mohamed Qalib Daqane.
Trade Opportunities
The discussions focused on rekindling and strengthening the relationship between Somalia and Malaysia where there is a wealth of potential for collaboration in areas like education, human capital development, and Islamic banking. The conversation also explored exciting opportunities to increase trade in Halal food and pharmaceuticals, which will benefit both nations.
The initial gathering was a promising start, and we hope it lays the foundation for a more formal organisation to keep the momentum going. We are confident that by working together, Somalia and Malaysia can achieve great things.
