Dr. Mohamed Ashraf bin Mohamed Iqbal
Chairman
Dr. Ashraf is a strong advocate of Islamic Finance and has spent the last 14 years sitting on Boards of Financial Institutions covering Commercial Banking, Development Finance, Leasing and Factoring. Over that period, his roles have included Board Chairman, Credit Committee Chair, Nominations & Remuneration Chair and being a member of Risk, Technology and Audit committees’. In addition he is a Shariah Committee member for an Islamic Financial Institution. Earlier in his career, Dr. Ashraf was a Director with the HayGroup and led three (3) Bank merger integration projects.
Dr. Ashraf obtained his Ph.D in Islamic Banking & Finance from the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEiF), Kuala Lumpur in 2016, Master of Business Administration and BSc in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Fresno USA.
He received a Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Studies from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2010 and the Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance (CPIF) from the Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals (CIIF) in 2018.
Dr. Ashraf completed the ICA Certificate in Money Laundering (Distinction) from the University of Manchester, Alliance Manchester Business School, Manchester, England in 2022. He participated in the Business Sustainability Management Program, University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, Cambridge, England in 2019 and the 8th Asean Senior Management Development Program, Harvard Business Alumni Club of Malaysia in 2017.
Dr. Mohamed Qalib Daqane
Director
Dr. Qalib is the Deputy General Manager of Salaam Center, a leading professional Training, Research and Consultancy that aims to develop and promote the Djibouti human capital. In the last 10 years, he has worked in banking and academia as an Investment Manager at Salaam African Bank, Sharia Contract Reviewer at HSBC Amanah Malaysia and lectured at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance Malaysia (INCEIF).
Dr. Qalib obtained his Ph.D in Islamic Finance from the Kulliyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge, Department of Fiqh & Usul Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), IIUM, a Master’s Degree in Islamic Banking and Finance from INCEIF and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fiqh and Usul Fiqh from Sharia University, United Arab Emirates.
Bashir Ahmed
Director
Bashir Awale has accumulated valuable skills and knowledge over the last 30 years having served in transport (Cargo and people–buses in the UK), trade, advertising and the establishment of the 1st Mobile LED Screen in Kenya; and finance sectors in three (3) countries. He has always been at the senior leadership and decision-making levels. He has acquired special training and skills in Money Service Businesses having been involved in the sector for over 15 years.
Bashir’s involvement in business operations began since he was 14, working in the evenings at his uncle’s transport depot while in his school uniform. He developed his leadership skills along the way.
Bashir speaks fluently in three (3) languages i.e., Somali, English and Swahili which gives him a huge communication advantage.
Hassan Jama Awale
Director
Hassan is the Deputy Chairman of Salaam African Bank (SAB) and has been the member of the board since 2020. He joined SAB in 2008 and has held various leadership positions. Prior to joining SAB, he was with Safarifone Inc. Nairobi, Kenya and Rawda Al Sharq Technology, Deira, Dubai.
He obtained a B.A (Hons) International Management form the International School of Economics Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi
Director
Abdirahman holds a degree in Business Administration and is a Certified Public Accountant. He has more than 30 years of experience in financial management and consultancy. He has been a Finance Director for Red Sea Petroleum Company, a financial consultant for various business firms in the region, and a Business Development Manager for Salaam Group Companies.
Abdirahman interests are in trade financing, auditing, and financial consulting.
Jama Hersi Abdi
Director
Jama holds a Master of Business Administration from Djibouti (2021), a degree in Business Administration from Indian Ocean University (1999) and a Bachelor of Science degree from Somalia National University (1990). Prior to being the General Manager, he was an educationist and a researcher in the agricultural sector of Somalia. He has previously held the position of Chairman for Saxo Relief Organisation and Head of International Relations Department for Btelco. He has also been General Manager for Almazeed Communication (Dubai).
In 2009, He was appointed for the position of Investment Manager at Salaam Bank after which he was promoted to General Manager of Salaam African Bank, Djibouti. He participates actively in both local & international seminars & training.
